RENS X BAARS & BLOEMHOFF
Nine objects, designed from nine different materials, united by one colour – this set of ‘building blocks’ for interior design comes exclusively in black.
Fascinated by the interplay between material, form and colour, Studio RENS took on the colour black for the Baars & Bloemhoff exhibition Transitions II.
"Black turned out to be a pleasant surprise. When making a pre-selection from all the black materials in the Baars & Bloemhoff product range we noticed the many nuances in black and the accompanying surface structures. They all result in very subtle but wonderful contrasts which let you experience the colour and materials afresh."
The Black collection is the result of a close study of all those material and colour nuances. The range of objects is designed as a large modular set of 'building blocks': the objects can be combined with each other at will, thus creating unexpected, striking connections between material and form.
The Black series comprises highly conceptual pieces of practical design: the items are no longer in regular production and are now only available upon special request for demonstrative purposes.

RENS X BAARS & BLOEMHOFF
Baars & Bloemhoff is an international wholesale supplier specialising in decorative sheet materials. Renowned for its well-curated range, the company is unafraid to innovate, often seeking collaboration with designers.
As part of the exhibition series Transitions, which toured design weeks in Milan and Eindhoven, several designers were challenged to leverage Baars & Bloemhoff's most innovative materials.
In the second edition, RENS was invited to push the boundaries of different materials. They decided to showcase the versatility of a single color — Black: nine objects, crafted from nine materials, united by one colour.
‘We were positively surprised by RENS choice to research our black materials. The designers really know how to emphasize features and differences — and how to transform a material into a 3D object.’
