RENS x Neon Kunze
UTUBES
Courtesy of Vienna Design Week. The characteristic colours of neon lighting arise only when the colourless noble gas is discharged in an electron tube and comes into contact with fluorescent powder.

Upon request by Vienna Design Week, studio RENS explored the potential of new colour shades and light effects. The designers immersed themselves into the technique at the 150-year-old family business Neonkunze – and conducted numerous tests using variable amounts of raw materials.

By processing only the most contrasting colours (blue and yellow) in 20 mouth-blown
u-tubes, the miraculous effect of neon lighting becomes highly visible to the naked eye in an experimental presentation.
